However, one chair was completely broken, the cast aluminum arm sheared right off where it attaches to the seat frame. The shipping box was pretty banged up so I do not know if it shipped broken, or was broken in transit. I await my free replacement set. Also, do not be fooled by the word "motion" club chair. They only rock, period. The word motion may fool you into thinking they glide back and forth.

Berndes Tradition 7-Piece Set Review

(More customer reviews)I have been using Berndes cookware since the day I bought my first piece at a sale my local hardware store was having. They had one of the traditions 9 1/2 fry pan with lid for practically nothing. I took it home and was blown away by the quality and durability of this little pan. I then looked on the web and discovered they were of reasonably high value. I ordered a few more pieces from Amazon and eventually threw out all of my Calphalon and other cookware. I have my family and friends in the process of converting to Berndes also (one skillet as a Christmas gift is all it takes).
You simply are not going to find better cookware in this price range.
Don't waste money on Calphalon, W.Puck, Pampered Chef, or any other cookware in the High-end consumer range. Just buy Berndes and be happy.

(More customer reviews)Our little Ascaso just gave up the ghost, after less than four years of delicious daily cappuccino for my wife and me. We'll miss it. But we haven't decided how to replace it.
This machine was fully manual, which meant getting good coffee out of it was like getting a melody out of a Stradivarius. It took practice and patience. But once dialed in, ahh, the results were splendid. My wife could never get the foam just right, and never learned to give it enough time to cool down after making the foam without scalding the coffee. But I found all the right ways to make delicious espresso beverages of all types.
I liked the machine, loved the design, tolerated the price, and the adored the coffee it made, but I can't give it the highest rating. Fairly early on the foam wand started leaking, just a little. Then the seals stopped sealing well which caused un-pressed coffee/water to leak around the brew basket into the cup (a repairable problem.) Then the temperature gauge stopped working - not really a big deal. But the death nail problem was the demise of the heating element. No heat, no coffee, no steam, no nothing. And even Seattle's espresso repair shop can't locate a replacement heating element.
Will I buy another Ascaso, or try a different brand? I don't know yet. Did we get almost four years of good espresso out of a $650 (on sale at Starbucks in 2006) machine? Yep. Should we have gotten more years of service? I'd like to think so. Would my wife prefer to listen to a digital CD player (i.e. use a fully automatic machine) to learning how to play a musical instrument (like the Ascaso)? As long as I'm around to make the coffee, she doesn't care.

Circulon Premier Professional 13 Piece Hard Anodized Cookware Set Review

(More customer reviews)Think back...you've probably owned non-stick cookware before. What happened to your last set? Did the non-stick start flaking off? Or did it just stop sticking? Or did you accidentally abuse it?
My answer: all three. I've been through 3 sets in the past 5 years or so, one a high-end Cuisinart, the other two some better quality stuff picked up at a big-box store. My abuse consisted on two occasions of accidentally leaving a pan or skillet on the fire and forgetting about it. Instant ruination--after that, the non-stick just didn't stick.
So last year, I got this Circulon set, impressed by the warranty. Well--semi-impressed, as the other sets had warranties, and even non-abused pieces didn't seem to hold their non-stick. A couple of weeks ago, I had the giant Circulon skillet on the front burner, and a pressure cooker on the back. I meant to turn on the burner under the pressure cooker, but mistakenly turned on the one under the Circulon skillet. Turned it on high, and walked off to watch TV, thinking that once I heard the pressure cooker start to hiss, I'd go turn down the gas fire.
Twenty minutes later, I smelled something. I went to the kitchen to discover my error. My beautiful Circulon skillet had the residue from what I had previously cooked completely burned on. It was hot, baby! Sitting underneath the biggest of my gas elements, the thing had gotten so hot that when I picked it up and turned it sideways, it was noticeably--no, hugely--warped. This is the kind of thing that had ruined previous cookware. In my mind, this piece was a write-off. My mind was racing--how am I going to explain this to my wife?
So, I let it cool down, scraped off the burned stuff with a soft sponge, and ended up scratching the rest off with my fingernails, not wanting to go the steel wool route. But then I noticed--it didn't look so bad...in fact, it didn't look any different before my negligence. The skillet was even flat after cooling. Hmm...maybe, just maybe...so I rubbed a tiny bit of cooking oil on it, and proceeded to cook a giant omelet that covered the thing, rim to rim.
And guess what? Still non-stick. Omelet slid right out of the pan. Wife came home, and never knew the difference. Have used it a few times since, no problems.
Now, why should Circulon be better? Is it something about those fine circular ripples which helps heat dissipate more evenly or the non-stick to adhere to a larger area? Or do they put something extra into the manufacturing process? I don't know--all I know is, it's quality. It's already outlasted my Cuisinart non-stick (even the non-abused pieces). The lids are beautiful--fit well, and are clear, so I can see what's going on underneath. This cookware has durable rubbery handles--also on the lids--so no need to reach for the oven mit, ever.
Draw your own conclusions...I've drawn mine. This isn't your ordinary non-stick cookware!

(More customer reviews)Beautiful color, not so heavy that you can't lift it, and it does an amazing job. Braised some lamb shanks and they came out beautifully. I noticed that no steam escaped from between the lid and pan, judging from the results of the lamb, that is a good thing. I was amazed at how easy it was to clean as well. The only thing I'm wondering about is the knob, as it has a temperature range, and I may want to try baking bread in it in a hot oven. I did notice that it is possible to buy a metal knob, which I may do. All in all, a great pan at a great price. Thanks Amazon!

The welds around the seat are sanded clean, the legs are an integral part of the seat, the bends feel clean, and the finish is real brushed aluminum, not brushmark paint. Your designer friends will still be able to tell you didn't spring for the real thing because it has 5 slats at the back (vs 3 in the Emeco) and 1 slat on the bottom brace (vs 2 in the Emeco). But for $125 vs $375, I'm willing to make that sacrifice.

Super Gyros Knife (Electric), Aluminum Body Review

(More customer reviews)There are both good and bad aspects to this knife. As for the good, it does slice the gyro cones very quickly and uniformaly. It will save you in meat by making nice thin slices and time by doing it quickly. It is also rather easy to disassmenble and clean.
As for the bad, it is relatively heavy. The product description says 8 lbs. That may include the power pack, but the cutter itself weighs at least 5lbs. Also the design is ackward. You need to keep pressure on a button near the bottom of the unit for the motor to work. I'm sure this is a safety design to keep your hand away from the cutting blade but it makes the cutter much more difficult to use. Also, the metal cutter is difficult to grip once it gets gyro juice (grease) on its body. Now for the worst part, I don't know about the plastic cutter, but the metal one becomes extremely hot with any extended use. Keep in mind that blade runs at a pretty high RPM and the motor is encased in the metal unit that you are holding. There is no visible vent for the heat. This, combined with the heat from the gyro machine makes it impossible to hold the cutter in your bare hand for more than a few seconds of cutting. If you are constantly cutting, you have to wear a heavy canvas/leather glove.
Overall, if you are going to use this for constant cutting (like at a festival), be prepared to have a tired arm and a hot and cramped hand. Although your cuts will come out very nice. It is probably best suited for a restaurant where gyro is not the main dish. Such a restaurant, however, could probably find a cheaper electric knife to fit its needs just as well.

Display photo is pretty accurate except maybe it makes it look slightly bigger than actual size, but refer to the dimensions to be sure. It came with 80" of cord which unless you have 20ft ceilings, you won't need that much (I hung it at around 18" from the ceiling). The tough part is wrapping all of the extra cord inside the housing at the top...if you wanted to hang it any higher (eg. 12") from the ceiling you might have a hard time fitting the extra cord. If you're an electrician or know what you're doing and have the tools you could cut the cords I'm sure. Quality/finish is pretty good and it even comes with the 12 bulbs that you need (even though it says it doesn't)...the contraction/expansion ability is cool and when lit it casts an interesting shadow around the room. Not difficult to install. If this fixture is something you are looking for I would highly recommend it.

(More customer reviews)I was given this set a year and a half ago and so far have had to send back three pieces because of the nonstick finish. I will say I like cooking with the anodized - it heats faster and retains heat well so it is easier to cook with. But the nonstick finish they put on this cookware is terrible. It flakes off and scratches easily. I baby them, follow all directions, etc. only use silicone or wood utensils. In my opinion the surface should not scratch if you are using an approved utensil. Calphalon has been good about honoring their warranty and have replaced everything I sent back so far but I am getting tired of having to keep sending things back. As money permits I am gradually replacing mine with Le Creuset. I don't know if the higher end Calphalon is better, but I can't bring myself to spend the money on it with the experience I've had with this set.

Anolon Nouvelle Copper Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set Review

(More customer reviews)I can honestly say that my wife and I have never used cookware that is of higher quality than this Anolon Nouvelle 10-Piece Cookware Set. We received a set of Emeril Hard Anodized Nonstick Fry Pans(8" and 12") as a gift recently and though decent, the difference in quality is readily apparent. The handles are thin and heat up, and the pans are thinner and cook less evenly. Comparatively the Anolon Nouvelle cookware is thicker with layered bases for even heating and have the best handles I've ever had the pleasure to take a hold of. They are thick and easy to grip, and the ends stay cool even if the pan or skillet has been sitting on the heat for a while, eliminating the need to use pot-holders. Even the smaller stockpot handles remain cool enough to pick up the pot when cooking (i.e. spaghetti). The bases where the handles meet the pots do warm up a little though.
I've had this set for just under two months, but we do not eat out and everything is home made so this cookware set has undergone a trial by fire, as it were. We've made a variety of dishes on our glass top stove and everything has been cooked to perfection. Water boils rapidly in this cookware, perhaps due to the double full cap bases. Cooking is even too - in the pancake test, all of the pancakes were evenly browned the same hue. Rice, stir-frys, spaghetti, soups, sauces, veggies, fried foods -- they all are easy to prepare properly with the Anolon Nouvelle set. That isn't to say that they'll keep overcooking from spoiling a meal but it seems hard to do wrong with them. Directions do not recommend cooking with anything higher than medium heat, but we haven't had any issues occasionally going higher. The tight fitting lids help keep dishes from boiling over and lock in the steam to help keep them from drying out. Lids on or off, these are very attractive looking pots and pans. We have a pot-rack, and hanging the Anolons from it gives the kitchen a more elegant look.
I intentionally left some sauce in a pot on medium heat even after we were done making a meal. It dried up and stuck to the bottom and sides and looked like it would be a hassle to clean up. I poured some water and detergent into the pot and let it sit for a while. When I came back to clean it, it wiped off easily. I'm really impressed with the nonstick coating on this set, it just works. The DuPont's Autograph 2 Teflon coating is supposedly the best currently used by Anolon. The flush nonstick rivets are another nice touch. Note: this set is not dishwasher safe. I've re-heated food in the oven a couple of times with no problems, though I doubt I'll ever test the 500 degree limit.
A star comes off for few reasons. The steep price tag may dissuade a casual buyer, though you are paying for a quality product that should last at least five years. You have to decide if a set in this range is what you need. Casual cooks may not need cookware so sturdy. With the amount my family cooks, these will be a good value. Chefs who prefer glass lids will need to look elsewhere. I also wish a 12" skillet was included in the set, but the 10" can handle most of what we'd need the other for. With 6 pans (and 4 lids) in the most common sizes, this set should be able to handle everything except some specialty dishes. The pots are slightly heavier than others I have used, but their sturdy handles make them easy to maneuver and lift.
I am very pleased with how the Anolon Nouvelle set has performed so far and look forward to creating many more mouth watering dishes in them well into the future. If any durability issues arise, I will be sure to append this review to make note of them.

(More customer reviews)Just received this lamp today and it fell short of all expectations. The base weighs no more than 3 pounds, and feels like complete plastic. The night light in the base is covered by an incredibly cheap looking fabric with the "strings" glued to the back. The same fabric on the night light is glued on to each panel of the lamp shade. The fabric was already fraying on the edges, and the panels had come apart during shipping. (I guess it was the cheap plastic clips holding the corners together.)The metal around the top of the shade was bent completely out of place. For 250 dollars each, a higher quality was expected. I will never buy a Jon Gilmore product again.

(More customer reviews)From the picture it looks like this fan light is about six to ten inches across, a little bit bigger than a recessed ceiling canister, when in actuality its quite large and wide, bigger than a large hat box, and it is way more than 19 inches in length from the ceiling, with the 2" rod it hangs more like 30". The picture and description was completely inaccurate. I was looking for something modern, and interesting... but because of the size, this really looked dated and old, the very worst of sixties mod. I returned it... which has been an adventure in itself, minus the 15 % restocking fee and the shipping charges they plan to deduct from my refund, which I still have not received, along with the wild goose chase to get it sent back. I will be more careful next time, its my fault for buying a ceiling fan online.

They are more expensive than most chimes, but the overall quality surpasses cheaper wind chimes by far. Ours have been hanging on our back porch for more than a year now and have withstood the weather well. The ones we purchased are big and heavy, so I had to be careful where to mount them. The company does make smaller, more affordable chimes, which sound just as good. If you want a chime with amazing sound that will last a long, long time, get some of these.
